Alera Elusion Series Mesh Review

If you’ve used (or have ever researched) anything from the Alera office chair line before, you’ve likely come to the conclusion that Alera’s priorities seem to lie within the realm of offering a high level of comfort for a relatively low price, no matter how many toes they need to step on to do so. If you like this quality, the Alera Elusion Series Mesh may be just what you’re looking for in your next chair, as it follows this exact formula.

Made with a few different materials that vary in quality, durability and aesthetic appeal, you’ll find this chair has been built with comfort in mind and nothing else. If you’re not one to care for fancy-looking chairs, you may very well find this particular model to be to your liking. If, on the other hand, you’d like something which is nice to sit in and nice to look at, the Alera Elusion Series Mesh might prove disappointing. However, sacrifices like this will need to be made if you want a large amount of comfort for a not-so-large price.

Quality & Material

There are many different materials which went into the making of the Alera Elusion Series Mesh. And, as it turns out, each one varies tremendously in quality. For example, the fabric seat offers a very consistent feel, giving it a large degree of quality. On the other hand, the mesh running alongside the back of the chair is very low in density, thus taking away some degree of quality from the chair as a whole. Overall, you might consider the chair’s materials to be more of an average quality after all things have been considered.

Durability

This is another area where each of the chair’s materials perform differently. Because the bulk of the materials in question seem to be quite durable and long-lasting in stature, you can expect this chair to stick around for quite some time before you need begin thinking about replacing it. However, I did have to dock it a point on its level of durability due to the mesh used in its back. Not only is mesh already inherently less durable than most chair materials, but this particular mesh is rather low in density. Long story short, every thread in this chair’s mesh will have to carry more weight than threads in a high-density mesh would.

Comfort

Whether or not you like the rest of what the Alera Elusion Series Mesh has to offer, there’s no denying that this model is one of the most comfortable office chairs available at our disposal. The low-density mesh, while hindering the chair in many other aspects, is great when it comes solely to the level of comfort you’ll experience while leaning into the chair’s back. This also allows your back to breath, making it even more comfortable in hot climates where most chairs might only serve to leave your back hot and sweaty.

Design and Finish

Unfortunately, the Alera Elusion Series Mesh had to make a couple of sacrifices to offer its customers such a large degree of comfort for such a low price. This is most apparent when looking at the chair’s aesthetic appeal. While some meshes can be made to look good, this is not the case here. The back of the chair almost looks like something you’d expect to find on patio furniture. However, because the are mesh chairs out there that are even worse in this regard, I gave the Alera Elusion Series Mesh a two instead of a one in the design department. Of course, whether or not the chair looks good is subjective to some degree or another, so you may find it beneficial to take a look for yourself.

Warranty

At face value, the Alera Elusion Series Mesh’s included warranty looks great. And, while it certainly is above average, I had to dock a point off of the chair’s warranty score, being that the fabric is only covered for two years while the rest of the chair is covered for an entire five. Still, the warranty is certainly above par and deserves no less than a four-star rating.

Overall Summary

Despite lacking in aesthetic appeal, this chair certainly has its place when purchased by the right customer. If the level of comfort in your new chair is truly the only thing that matters, the Alera Elusion Series Mesh gives you all the comfort you could ask for without having you pay a premium for other features which you don’t find yourself drawn to in the first place. Fora great comfort-to-price ratio, look no further than the Alera Elusion Series Mesh.

I feel like your ratings are a bit low, I’ve been seeing on other sites such as, http://www.thecozyoffice.com/alera-elusion-mid-back-office-chair/, and it seems to be all the rave. I feel you should add a price category, cause as of now it’s about $120, and WELL worth it. Good write up though!

Walmart now has the fully adjustable version for $155. I think im going to go for it. Even junk Staples chairs usually cost that much.
